10 Creative Ways to Turn Your Hobby Grow into Extra Cash (Without Selling Your Harvests)
You don't have to sell your weed to make money growing.
By definition, a hobby is not something pursued for profit.
You've heard me beat this drum on more than one occasion.
Hobby growers don't grow weed to sell weed.
They grow out of passion. For fun. For personal use. Without intent to sell.
But just because you don't sell your harvests, doesn't mean there aren't ways to monetize the skills and knowledge you're investing in learning.
10 Creative Ways to Turn Your Hobby Grow into Extra Cash (Without Selling Your Harvests):
1. Media
Start a Youtube channel or a podcast (or both).
Document your grows. Document your learning process. Explore trending topics and interview other growers.
Then, monetize with ads, sponsorships, platform & ad sharing revenue, etc.
2. Photography
Learn to capture the life of a cannabis plant.
As a grower, you have a unique chance to get experience because you have a grow to experiment in.
Get good at taking high res bud shots. Use the grow to reignite your passion for photography (that's what it did for me!).
Then, monetize with photo release at a gallery or restaurant, by selling stock photos, or by offering your services to clients using those same skills.
3. Writing
As a writer by trade, growing my own weed opened doors I didn't know existed, both on the client side and in my personal writing.
You're here, reading a newsletter that wouldn't otherwise exist if I hadn't started a small grow in my closet in my apartment in 2019.
The experience I've gained since has led to opportunities such as writing for and editing cannabis magazines, authoring and co-authoring growing content, and ghostwriting for numerous brands that support and supply the hobby and commercial grow industries.
You can do this, too.
4. Social Influencer
Love it or hate it, this is a way to turn your efforts into a side gig.
If you're doing #1-3, you can easily apply it to social media to garner an audience.
Share your story piece by piece and put a unique perspective on growing cannabis.
Then, monetize through partnerships, referrals, and affiliate kickbacks.
Or, use the audience and platform you create as a case study for what you can offer other cannabis brands and creators, then sell that as a service.
