4 Reasons To Upgrade To The Puffco 3D Chamber
Better battery life, advanced heating, easier cleaning, and a new leash.
Dear Friend & Subscriber-
I’ve been using the Puffco Peak line of products since 2018.
I got one of the Limited Edition White Peak’s when they dropped at CHAMPS Denver. Shortly after the Peak Pro was released, I picked one up as well as the wireless charger. And, just recently, I was gifted the opportunity to put the new 3D chamber through the wringer.
Originally, I was the first to talk down on the Peak.
It isn’t heady.
Then, they were able to get glassblowers to support the platform.
It’s cheap technology that breaks often (the original atomizers were notoriously terrible).
Then, they upgraded the atomizers with each iteration, as well as with the new Pro and Pro 3D chambers.
I already have a bunch of rigs, why would I buy a glorified vape pen.
Then, I realized all of the shit I was carrying everywhere I went.
When it came down to it, the Peak offered the truest-to-form, most-portable dabbing experience.
At the trade show in 2018, I realized that I was carrying:
A rig in its own pelican
A torch (often held separately to allow it to cool down)
Carb caps, temperature readers, q-tips, dabbers, etc.
As a former Boy Scout, the motto “Be Prepared” has carried over into my cannabis lifestyle, which means that I literally had everything needed to host a small curbside or alleyway sesh in the contents of my backpack.
The Peak offered a reduction in the amount of equipment needed to take a dab.
I no longer needed to carry a torch.
The Peak was electronic.
I no longer needed additional Pelicans or hard cases.
The Peak came with its own, slim case for easy transport.
I no longer needed to worry about someone bumping the carb cap off or chazzing a nail by dabbing too hot.
The peak has a tethered carb cap and manages temperature.
It is important to note this mindset: The Peak was a simplification of on-the-go dabbing, nothing more.
In practice, this meant that I would not allow myself to buy “heady” upgrades. The Peak was a tool to allow me to enjoy the dabbing experience without all of the extra gear, not an excuse to go buy a bunch of new heady peak tops and accessories. I am in full support of the fact that the unit has turned into a platform for these collectibles, but they weren’t for me.
My personal rule was that if it prevented the Peak from fitting in its case, or required my carry additional gear (cases to protect the collectible and fragile tops, for example), that it wasn’t for me.
It had to be functional and fit these requirements. I bought one of the Peak bubble caps, for example, because it fit the original tether and case. I have also considered the travel glass for these reasons.
Needless to say, my Peak’s have been pretty bare bones compared to others I know.
Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t have even upgraded to the Pro if my original hadn’t died. It’s not that I didn’t like it, but the Peak works great. It just ran its course.
I got a good 2.5 years out of my original Peak with only a handful of atomizer replacements (<5).
I never upgraded to a quartz or silica atomizer chamber. I was satisfied with the model as is. Then, it died.
When faced with the option of replacing anything in our lives, it’s often a cost-benefit evaluation.
What are the advantages to spending more, buying the upgrade, going with the latest model?
What is the available budget for the purchase?
What is the “ideal” lifespan of ownership?
These are the same questions you should ask yourself if you’re considering the 3D Chamber.
If you have a working atomizer, and you don’t have any issues with it, you can stop here; you don’t need the upgrade.
If you are replacing an atomizer, you are at a crossroads, and hopefully this piece sheds some light on the extra spend.
If you have a working atomizer but want the latest and greatest, I’m here to help you rationalize that purchase, because I have enjoyed the new upgrade.
Puffco Peak Pro 3D Chamber: What’s the big deal?
I kept asking everyone I knew this ever since I saw the pre-release drop at Puffcon in LA. What was the hype? What did they do to improve the already drastically-improved atomizer?
The short answer was that everyone told me it was a “smoother” chamber that cleaned easier; not enough to convince me to upgrade a working unit.
Eventually, I had an atomizer scare and got the flashing lights syndrome on my pro due to some spilled water. I found my way to acquiring a new one thanks to the team at Illuminati Smoke Shop in South Carolina (definitely recommend checking them out for Peak-related gear). Initially, I didn’t notice a big difference, but after using it for a few weeks, I can tell you that it is superior for four reasons.
